Eating Healthy on a Budget
If you have problems getting into shape or don’t know how to get into shape and eating healthy foods because
of the prices, you’ll find these tips to be just what you need to eat healthy on a budget.
1. Eliminate junk food
Not only will this save your life money and room in your cabinets (or trash can!), but it will also save in your wallet. First off it not only has a bunch of empty calories but actually makes you hungry then you was to start with! Also it is one of the main foods that causes many diseases that only this country seems to have (makes you wonder doesn’t it!?). Another downside is that it only usually has a few cakes or cookies in it that takes eating almost 25% or more of it to just feel it for the few minutes you do. Doing your shopping on your own is the easiest way to shop if possible, as children and sometimes spouses are
usually the ones requesting junk food. Shopping
alone will prevent this, and ensure that you only
buy the foods you truly need. One way to do this is by shopping online (search using Google or whichever search engine you prefer, though since were talking about a budget you may not be able to do this), or doing it while the kids are at school and your spouse is busy.
2. Water or milk instead of soft drinks
You can still enjoy your favorite drinks at a
sporting event or night out, although you should
stick with the smallest size when shopping to save
money and calories. Children and even adults need
milk or milk products on a daily basis. Milk will
also help you get strong and provides calcium for
healthy bones and healthy teeth. Also water and milk not only cool you off more but they don’t cause “stubborn” belly fat everyone hates that soft drinks and “diet” drinks cause (they also cause diabetes, heart problems, and many of the other COMMON problems with your average American these days.
3. Buy fruits in quantity

When they are in season, buy fruits in quantity
and freeze any extras. You can buy several pounds
this way, and freeze extras to have them when the
fruit goes out of season. Wash the fruit well,
remove any spoiled pieces, dry thoroughly, then
freeze in plastic zipper bags. They also can replace that “sugar boost” or sweet tooth you need to fill. Which is MUCH healthier than any junk food or soft drink and goes much further (and not just your wallet) but your stomach as well which is whats really important anyways.
4. Meats and beans
Meats and beans are the best sources for protein.
Lean meat is more expensive than meats with a lot of fat, but if your buying meat that isn’t grass fed (which is any crappy meats in the store) then you will want to go with the leanest cuts you can afford. If you can’t then cooking them thoroughly and letting them soak on a paper towel and smashing the as much of the excess fat from the less lean as you can will help (and save money in your wallet!). Canned beans are a great deal as well (the bag beans go further and you get more for your money but if cooking them in a crock pot or stove for 2 or more hours is not an opinion then just stick with the canned),
as they give you protein at a great price (the best beans are the ones in the bag as I mentioned above NEVER get them out of the can if it is within your ability to cook them). Reason being you don’t get very much for your money from the cans (mostly water and ugly looking fat) and because the beans are simply not as healthy for you after absorbing any chemicals etc in the can or added by that company or the GM (genetically modified company).
5. Beans as a substitute only
You should use beans a substitute for meat if your money is really tight, but it will NOT replace the other needs your body has to have that meat gives you. There are several varieties, so you can prepare them in a crock pot (which is the best) never deep fry anything though! So when you return home they are ready to consume.
The USDA recommends (most of their recommendations fail but I can’t complain to much about this one) eating beans at least 4 times
per week if meat is not available. If you experience gas after eating
beans you should try washing them, covering them with water, bringing the water to a boil, then draining it off and refilling the pot. Also keeping your digestive system clean helps as it will not get “blocked up”.
6. coastal area
where fish are around, make that an integral
part of your diet if you can find fish that doesn’t contain toxins (most store brands do sadly) that’s why I don’t recommend fish truthfully because most are very harmful to eat right now. You can catch them from the lakes or rivers if you like to fish, saving money in the process just make sure the water is CLEAN.
7. Peanut butter is great for those on a budget
as it’s popular with almost everyone. You can use it for sandwiches instead of eating hot
dogs which is bad for you and cost a lot more than you think! It cost a bit more but the smart balance brand is for those of you that don’t like or want the crappy processed type (just be sure to get the crunchy kind if you do decide to buy it because the creamy is awful tasting). Just my opinion buy it at your own risk! Again only if it’s within your budget if not you can get the “normal” peanut butter.
Eating healthy is always something you can’t go
wrong with. You can eat healthy for just a few
bucks, which makes it perfect for those on a
budget. Now, you don’t need a lot of money to have
the lifestyle and health you’ve always wanted.
