Eating Right Spiritually

Food is obviously one of the necessities of life. However, did you know as a human there are two types of food you need in order to survive? A plant comes from the dirt and in order to survive it has to continue to draw its nutrients from the dirt. Now, if you really knew who you were and where you came from, you would know how to eat. Human comes from two words: humus, meaning dirt and man, meaning spirit. So you are a spirit in a dirt body. Jesus says something very interesting in Matthew 4:4. He says, “It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” In other words, Jesus was saying that in the kingdom of heaven you need God’s laws; not only natural food (bread) to feed the natural man, but you need spiritual food (God’s Word) to feed the spiritual man. A government is founded upon laws that even the king must live by. So, we must also live by whatever God has already said, and is continuing to say. Whatever a king says or decrees becomes law. Therefore, God’s word and His law go hand in hand. In a kingdom, a king’s words are laws, or rules that cannot be broken without seeing death and destruction as a result. Nevertheless, strangely enough, people believe the law of gravity and other scientific laws, but they do not believe in the laws and consequences of God’s kingdom!

Now, if you do not eat natural food, then you will become weak and incapable of functioning the way you were created to. Death is inevitable. In the same way, if you neglect to eat spiritual food (the Word), then you (the real you- which is a spirit man in a body) will grow weak and unable to function as your spirit was created to. If even the plants need to remain in the ground to receive the nutrients it needs in order to live, then we definitely need to receive nutrients from God’s word in order to live. However, when you feed and exercise your spirit (by obeying the word), you become spiritually strong. So, make sure you have your daily bread (the Word)- your breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Therefore, if you have not eaten today, here is some bread for you to eat, digest, and receive nourishment from: God created you in His image and likeness (Genesis 1:26). In other words, you look like and have the characteristics of your Father who is a Spirit (John 4:24). Yet, because of your ignorance you may only live and die like a natural man (Psalm 82:5-7) instead of living as a child of the Most High God (El-elyon). Selah (pause and take some time to calmly think about and meditate on that). Have you ever heard the saying, “You are what you eat?” To put it Biblically, you become what you take in. Moreover, what you hear and see is likened to what you eat because it too becomes a part of who you are. So, if you want to live as a physically, spiritually, and emotionally healthy citizen of the kingdom of God, then you must decide to take in the right “food” and abide by the laws given by the king.
