Growing Power is a short story of Will Allen who is the founder of “Growing Power Inc.”. Will Allen, our Chief Executive Officer believes, “If people can grow safe, healthy, affordable food, if they have access to land and clean water, this is transformative on every level in a community. I believe we cannot have healthy communities without a healthy food system.” Grow – Projects and Growing Methods – Growing Power demonstrates our easy to replicate growing methods through on-site workshops and hands-on demonstrations. We have farms in Milwaukee and Merton, Wisconsin, and in Chicago, Illinois. Growing Power has also established satellite-training sites in Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Massachusetts, and Mississippi. Bloom – Education and Technical Assistance – Growing Power’s educates folks through local, national, and international outreach for farmers and communities. We also run multiple youth programs, have an active volunteer base, and actively work on policy initiatives regarding agriculture. Thrive – Food Production and Distribution – Food production occurs in the organization’s demonstration greenhouses, rural farm site in Merton, and urban farms in Milwaukee and Chicago. We also distribute produce, grass-based meats, and value-added products through the activities of over 300 small family farmers in the Rainbow Farmers Cooperative, and the organization’s year-round food security program the Farm-to-City Market Basket Program.

hes not black or white , he is a human being, a man trying to help man kind, you need to see that he is a man first, with his knowledge we can all benifit, if we use it. it takes more than admeration, cause and effect, put it motion, start small and work your way forward.
I so want to do this!
Will Allen is an inspiration too me. I wish I had known someone like him when I was growing up as I believe it would have made me a better person and a better gardener. I would really like to meet the man. I believe he did just start a organic community garden here in Madison. And too the earlier commenter I seroiusly doubt its about black or white for Will Allen. He is on PBS often here in Wisconsin and he helps any disadvantaged child learn to garden/farm, regardless of skin color.
man, if this non profit organization can produce all these foods, why havent we solved world hunger already? all i need is sum money and sum people, and i can solve world hunger
Great movie – very inspirational. Thanks for sharing!
This Allen guy is inspiring, I think all the Black Businessmen in America should support him anyway they can. With all of his success so far, beware of the white man who will try everything and anything to bring you down.
It is my vision to do something very similar. I am so inspired by Will. As a newbie, it might take me a while, but is fabulous to see somebody actually doing it. I do believe this is the future of food.
this is the future, Will Allen is a very admirable person!
This is my future and I know it! This is amazing!
i think this work is brilliant! of course i have a tone of questions but the most crucial is how could i implement a program like this in my community. there is a minister who promotes many of the concepts that are mentioned here in my area but todate no action has been taken and of course theres the more dire realities of getting people to take it seriously. in my area people are suspicious of “new” ideas and then theres the politics of getting the money. most non-profits know what i mean.
I’d like to see how you grow fruit in greenhouses.
This is so inspiring.
Urban farming is my calling in life.
This is my lifes calling I know it for sure. I’m planning a round round garden right now I’ve got some support and time. I’m really anxious I love feeding people. please take a look at some of my grow vids
haha…right on, good old cheap drugs and free health care eh? lol but i totally agree that it would be a big boost to public health if there were hundreds or thousands of places like this!
im liking your setup big time! simple but technical at the same time..you really are getting every inch of space out of what you have. good job!
Although lobbyists have a lot of influence, sometimes ideas are just to good to be ignored by pur politicians. If you look at the efforts of drug companies to stop cheap perscription drug imports from Canada, a lot of states just said screw you and did it anyways, despite the rediculous objections of drug companies. Like the idea that drugs from Canada [FUCKING CANADA!!!!!] might not be safe.
yeah…Taco Bell and McDonald’s would try to crush it before it gets off the ground… its up to us to initiate it, maintain it and DEMAND that the government protect our right to eat gooood food! :P
This is great stuff. Imagine if we invested the right amount of money and took this model all over the country? You could have dozens, maybe hundreds, of these little farms all over a city or county. Providing a cheap alternative to Taco Bell and McDonalds.
Will, I like that Hurricane hat you’re wearing!
this is a beautifully made video – of my hero. I feel lucky we have Will as a neighbor – he’s changing the world.
thanks for making the video! -diana at outpost natural foods
If you used hydroponics for groving fruit frees, you’d probably get even more out of it.
nice job! keep’m coming,!
Will is one amazing individual.
