How can I eat healthy while living in the dorms?
I don’t have to too much time or money to prepare food. I need some healthy options. I eat fruits all the time so thats not a problem. However, I need meal options. I like tuna fish so I eat tuna salad sandwiches A LOT. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.
However I don’t want to eat too much tuna because of mercury.

you could try those lean cuisine things they are the right portions and they taste great. Pair that with a piece of fruit and you have a good meal. It doesn’t take that long to cook just park it in the microwave for 4 minutes or just follow the directions on the box. Now that it is summer i eat those all the time.

Love the produce section of the grocery store whenever you get the chance to go. Stick with the outer part of the grocery store–it’s inside the aisles that have the processed bad food. You can get nice cheeses, deli meats, and so on. Be the girl that uses the kitchen on the floor…you can cook soups and meats over the stovetop. Check out some cool recipes…a good resource is http://www.sparkrecipes.com
i know i like looking at the grocery’s little sales catalogue or w/e they’re called, looking at the sale items for that week and seeing the things I want from it, saves a lot of money.
California rolls, sushi, egg salad, chicken salad rice
Fruit & nuts are good things to have available.
Tuna is an ocean fish, mercury & lead are in lake water.
Salmon is another choice that’s good for you.
A lot of college students live on Mac’n'Cheese.
Don’t buy the boxed kind; buy whole-grain macaroni.
Shop at the bulk store, & use real cheese in the sauce.
Yoghurt is really good for your digestion & immune system.
Mix it with the fruit & nuts, including flax meal.
College students eat a lot of hot-dogs, these are meat scraps.
Buy ground turkey & chicken bacon instead.
This is hard. I am a third year and I lived in the dorm one year and on campus apartment with three roomates another year.
I highly suggest a mini fridge. The dorm I was in kids used to use crock pots but that might not be allowed – if you think you can get away with it I highly suggest it. I also had a microwave in my room – again depends on your school.
stock your mini fridge with things like single serving yogurts ( I like la creme vanilla – it has less sugar than the dannon fruit on the bottom). Fruit is good but try to keep a bag of salad greens on hand Now keep in mind you dont have to use these greens for salad per say – with a little bit of dressing and feta cheese you can make it into a wrap. thinks like humus, cheese, apples, pitabread, tomatoes/ avacodoes for sandwhiches, wheat bread are all good to keep in hand. I always had a box of special k in my closet and silk soymilk 9 very vanilla is the best) on hand for quick meals. Canned soup, Progresso is decent for you and better than cafeteria food.
Eating healthy does cost money but if you live in the dorms you will be on a meal plan. I used to manage on about 20-30 bucks a week for my heathly extras to supplient the milk, andwhiches and basics I could but with my meal plan. Keep away from sugar and refined starchs – granola bars make great snacks going to class and so do cashews. fruit is key. I think I spent a good semester simply living on strawberries. Greens are so so important because the cafeteria tends to lack on decent dark greens or they make them so unappealing. Remeber you can make cron on the cob in a microwave and in a zip lock bag
