How important is it to eat right during pregnancy?
I can tell u right now and I dont lie, all i eat is junk, not all but I dont eat healthy fruit and veggies. I am on a 88 dollar a MONTH budget. I shop at walmart because it has more than just food. However there fruits are always bad. I look at strawberries and they have white fungi stuff on em b4 u buy em. Is cantelope good this season? I bought two already that I had to throw away. Watermelon is only good for a few days. I bought lettuce and it was good for a week only. I’m from NY, not good fruits up here. If I shop at another store its more expensive. I just got it, maybe a lil more fresh vegies with jars of fruit all natural in their own juices or water. I dont know. I’m already 250 I dont want to weigh 280 after i give birth. new Mommies, or pregnant ladies, HELP. Thank you.

your baby is basically what you eat, if this makes any sense.

if ur on an $ 88 budget a month. are u gonna be able to support ur baby when it comes to food, diapers, clothe etc?
you want to be a good mom. eat right and stop the junk.
it is important to eat right. i agree the fruit at wal mart is gross. have you tried to get food stamps? if your income is very limited, then you should be approved for it and you can go somewhere else that has good fruit.
everything that goes into your body first goes to your baby. anything good or bad from that food is given to your child. Its really important to eat healthy.. if your not eating some of the things you need to be, take vitamins. I take flinstones every day b/c the prenatal vitamins make me sick! good luck
Mothers not eatign right in todays society is what has made prenatals necessary for most. If you eat a healthy and varied diet, you wont even need those. But with the description of yours you definately will! If that is the only money in your budget for groceries then you need to be applying for assistance especially for the sake of your baby.
You really need to eat rigth when you are pregnant because all the nutrients you eat are helping your baby grow and develop properly. Frozen veggies are a good alternate. Canned fruit is ok, as long as it isn’t in heavy syrup. Be careful with canned fruit because they add a lot of sugar. Try to get as much fresh as you possibly can. Try frozen fruit as well. Make sure you also exercise, too. Take a walk for at least 1/2 hour a day. That will help with the weight gain. However, I will tell you that even if you do all this, soemtimes your body will do what it wants. I fully intended to only gain 20 pounds–I too am overweight to start. I watched my diet carefully, exercised faithfully, didn’t eat junk food–and I have STILL gained 40 pounds–though the last 10 is probably mostly water retention because I am 38 weeks and puffed up like a balloon.
Don’t stress about the weight gain–focus on eating as healthy as you can for your baby’s benefit. Good luck to you!
I would get some canned fruit. Is there an adli’s around there. they are always cheaper than walmart. i go there and buy a bunch of stuff and it usually cost me $ 30-40. You could also get some yogurt, applesause. Try canned chicken and mayo on bread. It’s really good. I love it and I pack it for my Fiance in his lunch every once and a while. Oh and if you are really that tight on money you should go apply for WIC. you will get free milk, juice, cheese, eggs, peanut butter, cereal. You might also qualify for food stamps. good luck and congrats!
i’m neither pregnant or have i been pregnant but know many who have been and are.
It is so beyond important to eat right during pregnancy
1 so you dont develope gestaitional diabetes, or diabetes after the pregnancy. Because that during the pregnancy can cause the child to have blood sugar issues when they are born, or can cause sever health issue for the child.
2 With weight gain comes blood pressure, with blood pressue comes pre eclampcia….which can kill you if not caught earlier enought and cause you to go in to premature labor.
3 you need the vitamines in the fruits and vegi’s, they are what helps the baby to grow healthy, as well as keep away other issues.
I understand the issue of money, might i make a suggestion check out local farmers markets in your area, you support the economy in your area, as well as the farmers from your area you also get fruit that is in season.
fruits that just starting to look funny but are still good can be blend to make shakes and veggies you can make your own v8 drink if you like that kind of stuff also how about just making omlets and adding this to the eggs.
You NEED to eat healty!!! Eat lots of eggs and vegetable and food with folic acid in them. You can look that up online. Folic acid is Crutial to the health and well being of the baby and yourself. There is nothing wrong with having some junk here and there. Make sure you look online about what Pregnant women CANT eat. There is a pretty long list, and make sure you do your best to avoid those foods. The problem with eating just food isnt so much hurting your baby as much as it will make you gain weight FAST. Your baby is pulling nutrients from everything you eat. So you inturn get everything left over, so if your not eating healthy you will notice you will be tired and beat alot. You need to be taking pre-natal vitamins also. If you dont have alot of money go to the grocery store or CVS or walgreens etc. and pick up the store brand ones and make sure you are taking them everyday. I know how much a pain in the butt it is to by vegies and fruit but you need to do that. If you dont have much money you need to go to WIC they give you alot of free staple of food that you need and They will help you after the baby is born and I believe it is free or very cheap you should look into that. If your fruit is going bad by small amounts and go grocery shopping twice a week. Just make sure when you are buying that cheaper frozen food that you make a concious descion to get the one with the vegetables in it and make sure you are drinking lots of milk. Good luck and WIC also gives great support if you need other help
good luck.
Your baby needs proper nutrition – if it doesn’t get it then you’ll have more problems later. The child could have enamel problems with their teeth (get cavities a lot) and their bones may not develop properly. What you eat will also effect the development of their digestive system and all the other organs (especially the brain) – their body needs to learn how to absorb vitamins and minerals and use them.
If you’re eating crappy food and not taking vitamins – you could have a much more expensive problem later when you’re in for constant doctor’s appointments and having your kids teeth pulled!
What you eat is really important for your child’s future. Can you get some help with your food expenses? Can you find a better store? Do you have family who wil help you? Greens and whole grains and fruits and veggies and proteins are essential. Iron and vitamins are too. If you are worried about your weight, try to fit some walking into your time while you are waiting for this little baby. No marathon, just to feel good. And after the baby is born, little walking adventures are great, when you feel like it.
It is strange, because some people who do everything wrong have healthy kids and some who do everything right don’t have healthy kids. Some of it is genetic, but you have to also think of your health because you will have someone little depending on you. If you are able to breastfeed, that will help some of the weight fall off, and it is the best thing you can give the baby for its beginning diet. Good Luck!
You should really eat healthier food than junk. Check your ad papers for sales at your local grocery stores. Not all fruits from Walmart are bad, as long as you choose wisely and store them properly once you get home. I really hope you are taking prenatal vitamins at least. There are inexpensive brands that you can get pretty much anywhere with an over-the-counter medicines section.
It is said to be very important but I had five children in the 70s and didn’t eat many fruits, except apples. I did eat some vegetables as we lived in the country. My children all turned out healthy except one who had a congenital heart defect. How about canned fruit? Tomato juice in cans? Check where there is a WIC Program–Womens, Infants and Children. A pregnant woman is eligible and they use to provide vouchers to get a range of brands of healthy foods at the grocery store.
I’m on a very very tight budget too. i also shop at walmart. i usually buy whatever fresh fruits and veggies are on sale and look good. i drink a lot of juice (make sure its 100% juice with no added surgar) you can buy juicy juice in the consentrated cans. i usually buy some canned fruits and veggies too. also frozen ones are good. i eat a lot of chicken too. you can get a whole bag of frozen chicken breast for around 7 dollars. it will last me and my husband about 3 meals. ((he eats a lot)
i know its really hard to eat heathy on a budget. sometimes the only thing you can afford is hamburgar helper and macaroni and cheese.
have your tried applying for foodstamps? we were denied. there really strict where we live but we applied for wic and that helps a lot. they give you milk, juice peanut butter and things like that.
good luck and congratulations on your pregnancy
You have got to eat healthy. First because you’re growing a baby who needs those nutrients. Second because the baby is going to be sucking up a lot of your energy and you need to eat right to keep yourself going. Of course fresh fruits and veggies are you’re best bet but if you can’t get them try frozen veggies. If you get canned fruits try to get lite syrup. Make sure you eat plenty of beans, at least you’ll get your folic acid. I’m not sure how any body can stretch $ 88.00 a month but I wish you luck.
